Kelle's Story - Pole fitness Pro
Pole fitness is an amazing sport which struggles with mainstream recognition as it still has a lot of stigma attached due to its roots in the adult entertainment industry. Although, most girls in the pole community have a lot of respect for the origins of our sport, we feel it has evolved to be recognised as a sport in its own right, so much so that the International Pole Sports Federation tirelessly work towards this goal.
My personal story started 3 years ago at a small studio in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland that has recently developed into Carousel Fitness in Inverkeithing. I went to a class looking for a fun way to work out as I am notorious for starting something then giving up after a few months. I went to that class not really knowing what to expect and, although I was the biggest girl in the class and I couldn't even hold my own body weight up for basic pole pull-up's or spins, I was hooked! I knew I wanted to be good at this after watching the instructors effortless and flawless execution of gravity defying moves and combinations. Three years later and I'm still not a tiny slip of a thing, but I am in the best physical health I've ever been in. I am strong, confident and have made friends all over the world I would not trade for anything. The collective cheer in a class when you pull off a move you've been trying to nail for months, the rallying around you if you do take a tumble and the sister(and brother)hood that bonds us across all boundaries are what have kept me going twice a week, every week for 3 years. I've undertaken workshops with world champions such as Bendy Kate, Kristy Sellers, Daniel Rosen and have others planned with Pantera Blacksmith and Josiah 'Badazz' Grant in to finish off my year.
Pole fitness has become for me, as it does for many of the girls and guys who take it up, not just a fun sport to keep fit but a whole body, mind and spirit experience to build confidence, health and physical strength.
And OBVIOUSLY we need gravity defying underwear for our tricks lol...especially if you're on the busty side as I am so we are always looking for the newest and best control in a bra, preferably in pretty styles and colours because the more advanced the tricks get, the more skin is needed for grip so a beautiful bra that can be worn as outerwear in class without the risk of a 'wardrobe malfunction' or over-exuberant bouncing is a must have clothing essential.
