World Earth Day | How to recycle your sports bra

We eat, sleep and live for sports bras here at boobydoo, but making changes for a greener lifestyle is something that is also important to us! Therefore, we have researched what we can do with those sports bras we no longer have use for to do our bit to help the planet AND those who need them.

Did you know that you can recycle your unwanted sports bras instead of just throwing them away?

How to recycle your sports bra

One of our main messages here at boobydoo is to have a correctly fitting sports bra. This means you need to regularly check your size as that can change, and when it does it is time to invest in a new sports bra.

Different activities require different levels of impact! So, for example if you used to do yoga and want to take up running, you will require a sports bra with a bit more support.

All these things mean we can end up with quite a collection of sports bras, BUT what do we do with those ones that no longer fit us or provide us with the support we need?

Instead of gathering dust in your underwear drawer or ending up in a landfill, here are a few ways you can recycle your sports bra and give it a new life:

Donate lightly worn sports bras to Smalls For All

Smalls For All is a charity we regularly use to donate sports bras that can not be put back into our warehouse.

The charity accepts sports bras that are in good condition and can still be used by someone else. As well as sports bras they accept everyday bras, nursing bras and pants (new).

Who are Smalls For All?

Smalls For All is a charity that collects underwear and donates it to adults and children who need it in the UK and Africa. Underwear is something we take for granted but not everyone is lucky enough to have this luxury!

How to donate your sports bra:

If you would like to get involved and donate your sports bra you can send it to them via post! You can find their adress on their website here.

Recycle your sports bra with Against Breast Cancer

Against Breast Cancer takes your unwanted bras and uses them to raise funds for vital breast cancer research and to help support small businesses in developing countries. This means that instead of ending up in a landfill, your bra will be given a new life!

How to send your sports bra to Against Breast Cancer

You can donate your sports bra to a local bra bank or send it to them by post. You can find more details on this on their website here.

Find local recycling points with Recycle Now

Bras that are no longer wearable can be recycled in clothing and textile containers at Recycling Centres. You can find the nearest one to you on the Recycle Now website.

Take your sports bra to an M&S Shop or Oxfam and place it into a Shwop Box

Most M&S stores will have a Shwop box where you can place your unwanted sports bras (and clothes from any retailer) which will then be passed onto Oxfam who either resell it or recycle it into something new. Nothing gets thrown away and any money raised goes into funding vital projects.
